Foster Parent Volunteer
Do You Love Animals?
Do you have a little extra room in your heart and your home? Would you
be willing to provide a few weeks of loving care to homeless kittens,
puppies, cats or dogs? Then you are just what we are looking for. The
Petersburg Humane Association is trying to save the lives of homeless
cats and dogs in our community, but we cannot do it without your help.
These animals need temporary families until they are adopted into loving,
permanent homes. Join our team of dedicated foster parents.
All companion animals need exercise and loving attention. Pets which
have been surrendered by their owner will need time adjusting to an environment
of less attention. Found/stray cats or dogs may need that extra love to
become more socialized and trusting toward people. You will be providing
them with the help they need to reduce the stress of their change in circumstances
and to become more adoptable until they find a loving life-long home.
As a foster parent, you will alert the PHA to medical and behavioral needs
of these animals.
Duties:
- Provide a safe and loving environment for animals in transition.
- Spend time with your foster animal(s), getting to know them and helping
them adjust to their new environment.
- Assess the animal's behavior highlights and problems.
- Alert PHA's animal coordinator if an animal displays any obvious
health problems or behavior problems.
Qualifications:
- Genuine concern for the welfare of the animals that is consistent
with the philosophy of the Petersburg
Humans Association.
- Experience with cats or dogs.
- A safe environment for foster pets.
- Ability to work independently.
